Louise A. Larson, 96, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at her home. Funeral services will be live-streamed on Friday, January 8th at 11 a.m. and can be accessed online at https://vimeo.com/496711131 . Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 7th at the KNOX CHAPEL of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Ave., Rock Island . Face masks are required and capacity limits will be monitored. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, Rock Island or the Catfish Jazz Society.
Louise was born on November 1, 1924 in Twin Valley, Minnesota, a daughter of Harold and Esther (Foster) Smith. She married Clinton J. Larson on June 1, 1947 at First Lutheran Church in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on June 24, 2012. Louise worked for John Deere and then the Rock Island Arsenal during the war. She retired from the Rock Island River Terminal in 1987. Louise was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Rock Island, where she had served as secretary and treasurer. She was a member of the church choir, the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and led the church youth group. Louise was also a member of the Catfish Jazz Society, Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Society, and the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority. She had also volunteered at the Quad City Botanical Center.
Survivors include her children, Michael Larson, Rock Island, Ted (Janice) Larson, Dallas, Texas, and Laura (Brad) Chumbley, Moline; grandchildren, Christopher (Allison) Chumbley, Bettendorf, Cara Chumbley, Chicago, and Matthew Larson, Dallas, Texas.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; parents; infant son, Dale; sister, Lucille Jamison; brother-in-law, Tom Jamison; nephew, Tommy Jamison; and niece, Terrie Kroshus.
