Lucille was born January 29, 1922 in Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of Desire and Mary (Hoffman) Goossens. She married Charles J. Quilty in 1941 in Moline, IL.
Lucille was a loving and devoted mother and wife. After her husband died unexpectedly in 1956, she raised their six children by herself on social security and by working a number of part-time jobs over the years. She was beloved by all children who knew her and especially by her grandchildren and she generously spent much time with them. She was a frequent baby-sitter for the grandchildren and took them on many colorful adventures. The grandchildren, and others, always said she gave the best bear hugs. She was an active member of St. Joseph Parish, and after it was closed, of Sacred Heart Parish in Rock Island. She loved music and was an avid dancer. Her family and many friends enjoyed her warm hospitality and presence. She was also a legendary cook and loved being outdoors. She had the unusual talent of reciting the alphabet backwards very rapidly.
Lucille is survived by her children, Charles J. Quilty, Moline; Katherine M. (Jack) Carruthers, Rock Island; Stephen P. Quilty, Davenport; Barbara A. (Martin) Labath, Lost
Nation, IA; Margaret M. (Ray Finch) Quilty, Davenport; and Gregory L. Quilty, Rock Island. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; brothers Chester (Gretchen), Herbert (Lois), and Harry; a sister, Mary Louise; and grandchildren Kristen Jean Quilty and Joseph Lee Quilty.
The family is very grateful to the staffs at Silver Cross Pavilion and Compassus Hospice Care for their vigilant and compassionate care of our mother and for many kindnesses shown to us.
