March 27, 1942 – September 30, 2022
Lynda L. Stone, Rock Island, passed away at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Moline from complications of Pulmonary Hypertension. Visitation will be from 4pm – 7pm on Tuesday, October 4th at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory in Milan. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Milan with Pastor Katie Styrt officiating on Wednesday, October 5th at 10 am. Interment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum in Rock Island, with a luncheon to follow back at the church.
Lynda Lee Brown was born on March 27th, 1942 in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Royce V. and Opal L. Brown. She was educated in the Rock Island School System, graduation from Rock Island High School in 1960. She also attended Black Hawk College.
Lynda was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years, retiring in September 1997 as a Program Analyst.
Lynda was married to Ronald D. Maranda on September 15th, 1962. She later married Larry R. Stone on June 22nd, 1996. He survives.
Lynda enjoyed reading, was an avid TV watcher, loved to garden, and walk her golden retrievers in earlier days before her illness. She also enjoyed lunches with high school friends and Arsenal friends. She spent time in her retirement babysitting her two grandchildren and attending all their activities. She was active in organizing the class reunions for RIHS Class of 1960.
Lynda was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Milan where she was proud to have been an elder, a deacon, and a member of the Christian Education Team. She met lifetime friends in her church family.
The family wishes to thank Drs. kanathur, singh, Okba, and Dr. Elkins in Iowa City for their care and concern during Lynda's illness.
Those surviving Lynda are her husband Larry, son Ronald Maranda, daughter Cynthia Maranda, grandson Jacob Maranda, granddaughter Ellie Maranda, and her faithful canine companion Reggie. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Frances Brown, nephew Terrence Brown, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Nancy Stone. She is also survived by step-sons Charles Stone (Jennifer) and Anthony Stone (Sarah); step-daughters Susan Brown (Jeff), Melissa Rusk (Tom), and Shannon Schaver (Eric); step-grandsons Callen, Jake, Blake, Charlie, Eric and Tyce; step-granddaughters Jessica, Jena, Nicole, Casey Jo, Chelsy, Carley, Megan, McKenna, and Macey; and step-great-grandchildren McKinzy, McKenna, Bella, Maddie, Brody, Ava, Beckam, Ezra, Theo, Peyton, and Callan.
Lynda was preceded in death by her parents Royce and Opal Brown, her brother Robert R. Brown and stepson Todd W. Stone.
