Maggie B. Anderson, 74, of Rock Island, was released from her earthly body on Friday, September 26, 2014 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island. Services will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Maggie was born March 29, 1940 in Homer, Louisiana, a daughter of Alonzo and Jessie Gillis. She was one of six children born to this union.

Maggie graduated from Homer High School and later relocated to Rock Island. Maggie was married to Artis Anderson of Longview, Texas for 33 years.

Maggie was a Christian woman of Apostolic faith. While in good health, she attended church regularly and was an active member of her congregation. Maggie was employed at Alcoa, Inc. for a period of time before she became a full-time homemaker. As a homemaker, Maggie enjoyed caring for her family. Whether caring for her children or other children in her extended family, she was known a genuine woman. Those who knew her well would say, "she never knew a stranger" and always had an open ear to listen and would always take time out to talk.

Maggie leaves fond memories with her children, Patricia A. Anderson, Rock Island, and Patrick M. (Rebecca) Anderson, Moline; four grandchildren, Duriel Harris, Chicago, and Kayla Hicks, Jasmin (Robert) Purdy and Peyton Anderson, all of Rock Island; one great-grandson, Robert Purdy Jr.; and sisters, Lena Gillis, Rock Island, and Elnera Gillis, Homer, La. Maggie's humility and giving spirit will be missed enormously by her nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Katherine Hicks, siblings, Curtis Gillis, Pernell Applegate, Luzell Robinson and Alonzo Gillis Jr. and one great grandson, Lyrik Phillips
