IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marcia
Chovanec
January 9, 1930 – May 16, 2024
Marcia Chovanec, 94, of Milan, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf after a brief illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Avenue, Milan. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island.
Marcia was born on January 9, 1930, in Parchovany, Slovakia, the daughter of Jozef and Anna Hruncak and was the youngest of 10 children. She married Jan Chovanec in Chicago on June 26, 1954. They were married 62 years before his passing in 2016. Marcia and Jan were members of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and previously Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island.
Mrs. Chovanec was a talented seamstress and was employed by Von Maur in the Alterations Department. She was awarded All-Star recognition for customer service prior to retiring in 1995.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne (George "Jesse" Fickinger); her son and daughter-in-law, David (Sue) Chovanec; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a very special nephew, Stephen Karabin of Morton, Illinois who is more like a brother to Marcia. There are also many nieces and nephews in the United States and Slovakia.
A heartfelt thanks to Racquel Frese, George's daughter (a medical professional), for her devoted assistance, advice, and care during Marcia's many health issues over the years.
And a special thanks to Beth Wirth, her goddaughter, who will be handling the music for the Funeral Mass.
While Marcia's stay at Clarissa C. Cook was brief, memorials may be made to them for their extremely compassionate care.
