IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret "Peg"
A. (Dunlap) Mcfarland
June 18, 1932 – March 15, 2025
Margaret "Peg" A. McFarland, a beloved mother and cherished community member, will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit. She peacefully departed this life on March 15, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by the love of her family at her home in Rock Island, Illinois.
Born on June 18, 1932, in Moline, Illinois, Peg was the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Joneson Dunlap. She was a proud graduate of Rock Island High School, having completed her studies in 1949. On October 14, 1950, she united in marriage with James M. McFarland in Galesburg, Illinois, sharing a life filled with love and devotion until his passing on December 6, 1998.
Throughout her life, Peg made significant contributions both professionally and personally. Initially employed by the Illinois Bell Telephone Company, she later dedicated over two decades to the Quad City Engineering Company, where she served as an office manager. Her commitment extended beyond her career, as she actively participated in her children's education through the PTA and became a vital member of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, now known as Grace Church, PC(USA). There, she held several leadership roles, including deacon and moderator of the Women's Association, and she lovingly volunteered her time at Trinity Medical Center. Peg had a passion for making ceramics and made sure many of her family and friends all had something to cherish.
Peg's legacy lives on through her beloved family, including her sons, James J. McFarland, Patrick T. (Lisa) McFarland, and Scott R. McFarland, alongside her cherished grandchildren: Danielle Burke, James McFarland, Christopher McFarland, Dustin McFarland, Joseph McFarland, Kristen Hutchins, and Jessica Stice, as well as fifteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, her parents, her daughter Kathy Eileen McFarland, brother Larry Dunlap, and daughter-in-law Angelia Kay McFarland.
In honor of Peg's life, a funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island, IL. Prior to the service, family and friends will have the opportunity to gather during a visitation from 9 to 11 AM. Following the ceremony, Peg will be cremated, with inurnment taking place privately at Memorial Park Cemetery in Rock Island.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to Grace Church, PC(USA) or the Wounded Warrior Project, honoring Peg's compassionate spirit and enduring legacy of service to others.
