Obituary

Margaret Marie LaCroix, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 88. She was born on April 1, 1937, in Lost Nation, Iowa, to Alma Nodurft and Harry Nodurft.

Margaret was the beloved sister of Patricia (“Patty”) and, for more than 45 years, lived together with her loving partner, Robert “Bob” Lavern Coyne, in Davenport. Their relationship was marked by steadfast companionship, care, and the kind of loyalty that only deepens with time.

Margaret’s life was defined by resilience and devotion to family. She raised her sons on her own, providing for them with determination, love, and an unwavering sense of responsibility.

Margaret was known for her strong work ethic and the way she treated people. Early in her adult life, she worked at Frank Foundries in Davenport as a plant floor manager. Later, she worked in customer service at Von Maur at Duck Creek Plaza, beginning in the 1970s, and remained there until her retirement. She took great care of customers, was friendly and dependable, and became a trusted leader to coworkers, known for solving problems with patience and kindness.

In the five years following the death of Patty’s husband Dan, Margaret became a constant presence for her sister. While Patty was in a nursing home, Margaret visited her daily, offering loving care, companionship, and steadfast support. That faithful devotion continued until Patty’s passing in 2012, and remains one of the clearest reflections of Margaret’s generous heart.

Margaret was preceded in death by her son James (“Jim”) LaCroix and is survived by her son Mark LaCroix of Temple, Texas, and his wife Sandy. She is also survived by Mark’s daughters, Rachel LaCroix of Killeen, Texas, and Rebecca Marie Cundiff of Temple, Texas, along with Rebecca’s husband Kevin Cundiff.

Margaret is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Kay LaCroix, Jim’s wife, and the mother of her grandchildren Martin LaCroix of Eldridge, Iowa, and Jalene LaCroix of Fort Meade, Maryland; by her great-grandchildren Presley LaCroix, Theodore LaCroix, Harmony Cundiff, and Aiden Cundiff; and by her nephew Michael Bruhn of New Bern, North Carolina, and his wife Barbara Bruhn.

Margaret and Bob loved their dogs, Susie, KoKo, and Misty Blue, who brought them constant companionship and joy. They also enjoyed visiting West Lake Park, a favorite place that held many good memories.

Margaret held special affection for the caregivers at the MercyOne Genesis Davenport Cancer Center. She often said she truly loved the people there and looked forward to her treatment visits because of how caring and friendly they were, especially Karla, the nurse who interacted with her most, along with Dr. Spector and Sharon in phone triage. In a bond that meant a great deal to their family, Margaret and her son Jim went to chemotherapy treatments together, and on occasion they even had sessions scheduled at the same time, supporting one another with courage and gratitude.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be scattered at West Lake Park during a private family gathering at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities.
