Marian I. Miller, 76, of Milan, passed away Monday, October 14, 2024, at Avonlea Cottage, Milan.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Preemption United Methodist Church, 2652 170th Avenue, Preemption. The memorial service will be livestreamed through the church's Facebook page. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting Marian's family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Marian was born November 3, 1947, in Rock Island, to Robert O. and Holly G. (Hamrick) Miller. She graduated from Sherrard High School, Class of 1965. Marian furthered her studies at Augustana College where she earned a bachelor's degree in 1969. She also earned master's degrees from Peabody College and the University of Iowa. Marian worked 13 years as a teacher in the Rockridge school district and 25 years as a reference librarian at Augustana College before retiring. Marian was a longtime member of Preemption United Methodist Church. She was also a lifetime member of the National Education Association. Marian enjoyed reading and visiting with family and friends. She also donated to several charitable organizations that were important to her.
Those left to cherish Marian's memory include her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Robert Jinks, Milan; nephews, Steven (Adrianne) Jinks, Falls Church, Virginia, and Michael (Ellen) Jinks, Oak Park, Illinois; Connie and Jim Widdop, Milan; and special friends, Teri and Ed Connolly and their children, Annalise, Adrian, and Owen.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents.
Marian's family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff at Avonlea Cottage, UnityPoint Cancer Center, and UnityPoint Hospice.
