Marion Oak, 94, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, died at home on July 11, 2026. Born on July 14, 1931 in Taylor Ridge to Kenneth and Laura (Mueller) Oak, he was raised on the family farm, where a love of agriculture took root.
He was a lifelong member of Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church. As a young man, Marion was a standout football, basketball and track athlete, earning All-State honors. He briefly left home when he was drafted into military service during the Korean War. After he returned, Marion met the love of his life, Dorothy Voorhis. They married October 4, 1958, beginning a beautiful partnership spanning seven decades. Together, they raised two children, Kevin and Sheri.
Marion and Dorothy shared a passion for dancing, and for many years, you could find them on the dance floor weekly. Their love for each other was evident as they danced the night away, inspiring all generations of family and friends. He continued working land and livestock well into his 90s, doing what he loved alongside his brother, son, grandson, and great-grandchildren. Seeing his life's work carried forward in the next generations filled Marion with immense pride. Above all, he cherished his family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Marion’s quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and love for the land will be remembered by all.
Marion is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; his children, Kevin (Cynthia) Oak and Sheri (Anders) Holgersson; his grandchildren, Nathan (Amy) Oak, Mackenzie (Zachary) Hopkins, Hannah Oak, Miranda (Lawrence) VanWinkle, Katherine (Benjamin) Jordan, and Benjamin Holgersson; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Marvin (June) Oak and Eloise (Samuel) Stuart.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 13228 140th Street, Edgington, Illinois. Visitation will be from 10 – 11 am Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the church. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be presented. Memorials may be made in care of Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
As during each autumn’s harvest, we reflect on and give thanks for the blessings and abundance of these seasons. Marion’s long life was exceptionally well-lived, and his legacy is a testament to his steadfast faithfulness – to his family, his farm, and the community he loved.
