Marie L. Johnson, 95, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at her home.
A requiem mass will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Anglican Church, 1818 6th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Additional visitation is 10:00 a.m. until service time Saturday at the Church. Memorials may be made to Trinity Anglican Church or to a favorite charity.
Marie Louise Bonell was born September 27, 1920 in Brookings, S.D., a daughter of John and Daisy ZumBrunnen Bonell. She married the Rev. Wayne L. Johnson on June 30, 1947 in Brookings. He preceded her in death on January 2, 2013.
Marie graduated from South Dakota State University. She taught school for five years in DeSmet, S.D. Marie's greatest role in life and the one she cherished most was that of wife, mother and grandmother. She supported her husband's ministries in Pekin, Rock Island and Kenilworth and sang in the church choirs and served with the congregation's guilds and service committees.
She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Rock Island.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Dave Arnold, Moline, Teresa and Steven Thompson, Benson, Ill., and Kathryn Nakashima, of Nevada; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Barb Johnson, Grawn, Mich.; grandchildren, Matthew (Wendy) Arnold, Moline, Julie (Tony) Knaak, Moline, Rebekah (Shawn) Hayes, Benson, Joshua (Phyllis) Thompson, River Forest, Ill., Kathalyn, Karalyn and Grace Nakashima, all of California, Corey Johnson, Seattle, Wash. , and Tim Johnson, Grawn; great-grandchildren, Sullivan and Brielle Arnold, Moline, Abigail Marie and Anna Hayes, Benson, and twin great-grandchildren expected in March . She was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Shawn Arnold; and brothers Jack and Bill Bonell.
