Marie O. Stropes, 93, of Rock Island, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Graveside services will be 11 am, Thursday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at 10:30 am, Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island.

Marie was born on April 26, 1921 in Independence Township, Appanoose County, Iowa, a daughter of Elvin and Lulu May Phelps Fenton. She married Melvin "Red" Stropes on October 14, 1939 in Davenport. He preceded her in death on October 18, 2013 after 74 years of marriage. Mrs. Stropes was a homemaker. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sons, William (Sue) Stropes Sr., Orion and Lee Stropes, Orion; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and a brother, Neven (Mina) Fenton, Milan.
