Marietta U. "Etta" De Smet, 86, of Rock Island, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at her home.  Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Memorials may be made in care of the family.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family with arrangements.

Etta was born on March 18, 1931 in Atkinson, IL, a daughter of Julius and Ida Marlier Eeckhout.  She married Richard De Smet on January 14, 1950 at St Ann Catholic Church in East Moline.  Etta worked as a bookkeeper at several area companies, including Garber Supply and Frank Foundry.  In later years, she and Richard operated D's designs and a fishing lure company.  Etta also had operated concession stands at Saukie Golf Course and Niabi Zoo.  She loved caring for and manicuring her home and yard.  She cherished all of the time spent with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Richard; sons, Dennis (Margaret) De Smet, E. Moline, Ric (Mindee) De Smet, E. Moline and Jeff De Smet; 5 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Deborah De Smet; grandchildren, Crystal De Smet and Johnny Kaskadden; sister, Lucille Buysse and brother, Buddy Eeckhout
