Marilou J. Dyson, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 153 19th Avenue, Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2024, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery, Mt. Carroll, Illinois.
Marilou was born April 5, 1938, in Freeport, Illinois, to William and Lilyan (Strauss) Penticoff. Marilou graduated from Freeport High School in 1956. She earned her bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University. Marilou married Dr. Charles Dyson on June 22, 1963, in Mt. Carroll. She previously taught business education in Chadwick, Illinois and worked at Deere and Company. Once her children were born, Marilou was a loving homemaker who cared for her children. She regularly attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she volunteered at the preschool. She also volunteered at the Rock Island Public Library. Marilou enjoyed life and spending time with her family and friends, playing board games, bridge, and euchre. She also enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, bowling, and traveling with her family.
Those left to cherish Marilou's memory include her husband of 61 years, Dr. Charles Dyson; daughter and son-in-law, Darcy and David Van Acker; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Erin Dyson; grandchildren, Emma, Lila, and Carly Van Acker, and Cade, Hayden, Jace, Beckham, and Ellis Dyson; great-grandchild, Bentley; and brothers, Eugene and Richard Penticoff.
Marilou was preceded in death by her parents; children, Christopher and Katrina Dyson; and sister, Janet Blankenhorn.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a scholarship fund designated for Marilou's grandchildren or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Moline.
