Marilyn J. Abel, 92, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island. Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Friday, February 11, 2022, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will be in Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Food Pantry, Rock Island and/or an act of kindness in memory of Marilyn to make the world a better place.

Marilyn was born on August 15, 1929, in Bismarck, North Dakota, a daughter of W.B. and Helen C. (Andrist) Andrus. She married Clayton Vick and later married Thomas E. Abel at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island. Thomas preceded her in death on March 5, 2017. Marilyn received her LPN degree from Eastern Iowa Community College and retired from the Rock Island Post Office in 1990. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Rock Island Moose Lodge. Marilyn was a volunteer at UnityPoint Health-Trinity hospital in Rock Island. She loved to golf and belonged to the Indian Bluff and Sauki Women's leagues.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Weybright and Patricia (Ken) Swank; son, Timothy Vick, all of Rock Island; sister, Patricia O'Neill, California; grandchildren, Jessica (Paul) Stubbs, Angela Swank, Thomas (Lisa) Weybright, Michael (Brieana) Weybright, Amber Vick, Ashley Vick, and Timothy J. Vick; and great grandchildren, Cale and Ellison Stubbs, Addison, Kellan, Audrey and Sammy Weybright, and Bentley and Avery Vick.
