Marilyn J. Johnson, 88 of Rock Island died Tuesday January 10th, 2017 at Trinity Unity Point Health in Rock Island.
Funeral services for Marilyn will be 10:30am January 18th at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church of Rock Island with the Pastor James Benson officiating. Visitation will be 4:00pm to 6:30pm on Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral home 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island with her husband.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island or to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, Illinois.
The former Marilyn Jones was born January 9th, 1929 in Rock Island, the daughter of James G. Jones and Mildred Kerr Jones. Marilyn was active in many social groups in the Quad Cities including volunteer work at Trinity Regional Health Systems in Moline and attended a monthly meeting with a special group of friends for over 50 years from High School known as the "Lunch Bunch". She also worked on many class reunions and other activities since graduating from Moline High School in 1947.
She married Donald E. Johnson on October 6th, 1951. He passed away June 23, 2010. Marilyn and Don were active members of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church in Rock Island throughout their lives. Marilyn was active as a Deacon, a Church Circle Leader and a member of the Presbyterian Woman's Group. She loved spending time with all her family, many friends and especially her grandchildren. Marilyn and her husband also loved the many trips they took together to Hawaii during the winter months.
She is survived by her two children and their spouses, Douglas (Amanda) Johnson of Moline, Illinois and their children Amber (Scott) Mattice Atlanta, Georgia, Derek Johnson, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Austen Johnson, Hammond, Louisiana and Lori (Bruce) Johnson of Marshalltown, Iowa and their children Rachel Johnson, Marshalltown, Iowa and Zach Johnson, Chicago, Illinois and Meredith (Neil) Liechti, Des Moines, Iowa. She was very proud of all six grandchildren. Marilyn was very fond of her dog Daisy who became her best pal over the last few years of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
