Marilyn Denise Watson, 64, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island.
Marilyn was born April 13, 1960, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Joseph "Joe" D. and Johnnie L. (Powell) Martin. She graduated from Rock Island High School in 1978. Marilyn worked as a dental assistant at Community Healthcare for 30 years.
Marilyn was a member of Greater Antioch Baptist Church. She deeply valued her faith and embraced the community at her church, where she found strength and companionship.
Marilyn's love for travel allowed her to explore new places and create lasting memories, often bringing family and friends along for the journey. Her vibrant personality and the kindness she extended to others will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Those left to cherish Marilyn's memory include her sons, Jerell (Penny) Jones, and Darrius Martin; grandchildren, Kaela (James), Demonte, Darrius, Jarren, Demani, Dionte, Dontrell, and Darrien; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, JoAnn Rhoden, Helen Jordon, Joe Martin Jr., Frank Martin, Tony Martin, Lorenzo Martin, Johnnie Matthews, Timothy Matthews, Carl Black, and Amy Matthews; special niece, Rukesha Shell; and a host of extended family members and friends.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Allie Mae Martin Shell, Janis Martin, Allison Matthews, and Kanisha Sanchez.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, at The Word Church in East Moline. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is entrusted with Marilyn's final arrangements.
