Obituary

Marjorie A. Hoover, 91, Rock Island, IL passed away on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at her home under hospice care surrounded by family and with her beloved cats, Dallas and Bandit, by her side. Per her wishes, no services are planned. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

Marjorie was born on June 15, 1935 to Harold and Mary (Betows) Cherrington in Moline, IL where she grew up and attended high school. In July of 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert Hoover. The couple made their home in Rock Island where they raised their four children. Marjorie was a dedicated homemaker who, in addition to taking care of her family, also fostered countless kittens. After years of volunteering she later worked for the Quad City Animal Welfare Center.

Marjorie was an avid reader who went through an endless supply of romance novels. She was also a big sports fan cheering for the Illini basketball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the Chicago White Sox. More than anything, she loved her family and especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Robert (Becky) Hoover Jr., Mark (JaCinta) Hoover, Amber (Jeff) Moritz, and Kim Quinn; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Roy Cherrington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Cherrington; and husband of over 50 years, Robert Hoover Sr.
