Marjorie T. Wetherell, 82, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at Unity Point Health - Trinity, Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care of St. Pius X Catholic Church or The Alleman High School Wrestling Program.
Marjorie was born on Oct. 14, 1932 in Lourdes, Iowa to John and Anna (Knippling) McGee. She married Gerald E. Wetherell on July 20, 1957 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He died on February 12, 2004. Mrs. Wetherell worked as an office administrator in her early years for the Credit Bureau, Collins Radio and Cherry Burrill of Cedar Rapids. In later years, she was a housekeeper at Laurellwood Health Care Center of Rock Island. Her faith and family were hallmarks of her life. Marjorie was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. She will be remembered for being a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved family gatherings and spending time with those close to her. She also enjoyed playing cards, praying the rosary, watching movies and game shows, crossword puzzles, traveling, gardening and needlepoint.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Valerie (Steve) Frels, Davenport, Janet (Mike) Anderson, Flushing, Mich., Mary Naab, Morton, Gary P. Wetherell, Rock Island, John (Marlene)Wetherell, Rock Island; grandchildren, Mike (Angela) Frels, Jenny (Tom) Lenger, Krista Naab, Joey (Kayla)Naab, Kevin Wetherell, Sean Wetherell and Anna Wetherell; great-grandchildren, Lucas, Tyler, Clare, Evelyn and Bryher; a sister, Rita Fleming and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Carolyn; brothers, Don, Ray, Jerry, Edward and Jack McGee; sisters, Marcella Mirci and Cecelia Delaney and a sister in law, Kathy Wetherell
Marjorie's family would like to thank her caretakers at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline and UPH-Trinity, Rock Island for their outstanding level of care.
