Mark J. Johnson, 71, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at his residence.
Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting Mark's family with arrangements.
Mark was born on April 4, 1954, to Walter Charles and Geraldine Grace (Lundberg) Johnson in Rock Island. He was a proud graduate of Rock Island High School, Class of 1972. Mark married Terri Spurgettis and to this union his daughter Erin was born. In 1990, he married his beloved Patricia A. Dagett, and together they built a life over 35 joyful years.
Mark dedicated 37 years of his life to John Deere, earning the respect and admiration of all who worked alongside him. He was not only a devoted employee but also a passionate member and former president of UAW 865, where he championed the rights of workers. A sports enthusiast at heart, Mark was a fan of March Madness, the Fighting Illini, and the Chicago Bears and Cubs. His infectious spirit and loyal enthusiasm turned every game into an opportunity for celebration, and he loved sharing these experiences with his family and friends.
Those left to honor Mark's memory include his wife, Pat; daughter, Erin (Patrick) Boyle; stepchildren, Charissa (Greg) Sanders and Randy (Heather) Upton; grandchildren, Michael Caras, Danielle Upton, Tayler (Tae) Day, Armand Cerda, Shae Upton, Jarren Sanders, Amadeo (Gracie) Cerda, Maleah Upton, Talia Sanders, Ciera Carpenter-Boyle, Finn Boyle, and Eleanor Kilbride-Boyle; great-grandchild, Kahir Day; sisters, Carol (Ken) Roberge and Julie Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents.
