Mark J. Parr Sr., 86, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, Feburary 8, 2017 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, Rock Island. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. A rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. Sunday followed by visitation from 1:30 - 4 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Inurnment will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.
Mark as born in Lindsay, Neb. on March 10, 1930, a son of Joseph H. and Clara Behrens Parr. Following graduation from St. Joseph High School, Rock Island, Mark joined the U.S. Navy. He married Donna Mitchell on August 4, 1951 in Rock Island.
Mark worked 37 years at J.I. Case Company, Rock Island, retiring in 1987. He was also past president of the UAW Local 806.
Mark was a member at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. He enjoyed spending his vacation time fishing in Minnesota and Wisconsin with his family, as well as hunting dove, waterfowl, deer and mushrooms with his sons, daughter and grandsons. He liked going to the casino and going out to eat. Most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Donna Parr, Rock Island; children (and spouses), Mark (Julie) Parr Jr., Rock Island, Mike (Mary) Parr, Moline, Dan Parr, Milan, Jeff (Carol) Parr, Rock Island, Steve Parr, Rock Island, Holly (Terry) Adamson, Milan and Sam (Janine) Parr, Moline; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marion Strayer, Fort Myers, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lorene Tady and Wilma Mitchell and brother, Alvin Parr.
