Marlene was born in Davenport, IA on April 29th, 1931 to William and Edna Frauen. After initially living in Maysville, IA she moved to Davenport and later graduated from Davenport High in 1948. Upon graduation, she began working at Northwestern Bell - eventually rising to the position of assistant chief operator. She married Gary V. Beck in 1957 and they had two sons - Greg and Steve. For several years she raised her sons and later returned to work with many years of service at Petersen, Harned, & VonMaur and the Rock Island Arsenal. Marlene and Gary enjoyed travel with summer trips to Estes Park, CO for more than 30 years. They also enjoyed visits to Las Vegas with family. A basketball fan for many years, Marlene first watched Davenport High and then Rocky when her family lived in Rock Island. She enjoyed the Rocks' success cheering them on at many regular season and tournament games. Marlene was also an avid NBA watcher and a fan of Tim Duncan and the Spurs. Gardening and collecting antique glassware were two of her favorite hobbies. She loved music and attended many concerts in her younger days. Her favorite singer was Tony Bennett who she saw three times in person. Volunteering was something she was committed to. She taught Sunday school at South Park Presbyterian Church for 17 years and was very active in the PTA, Y-Wives, and King's Daughters. She lived her life putting the needs of others before her own. Marlene is survived by her husband, Gary; sons, Gregory W. Beck, Bettendorf and Stephen A. (Teresa) Beck, Bettendorf; granddaughter, Lauren Beck; sister, Shirley Hazen, Davenport; several nieces and nephews. Marlene was also thankful for the wonderful neighbors she had over the years.
