Obituary

Marlin E. Scharer, 84, of Rock Island, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Marlin was born on November 25, 1937 in Moline, a son of Max and Adeline (Popp) Scharer. He married Nancy Cheney on June 7, 1958 in Moline. She preceded him on April 3, 2014. Mr. Scharer worked as a crane operator at Alcoa for 44 years. He enjoyed visiting with his neighbors, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children, Craig and Crystal Scharer, Milan, Debbie Scharer (Lonnie Horton), O'Fallon, MO, Scott Scharer, Orlando, FL., Lori and Tim Hanna, Reynolds; grandchildren, Amber, C.J., Abbey, Bethany, Kathy, Diana, Nick, Mike, and Alexander; great grandchildren, Daniel, Carson, Lizzy, Caden, Dallas, A.J., and Ava; siblings, Ron Scharer, Judy Turner, Susan Johnson, Russell Scharer.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nancy; great grandson, E.J.; and a brother, Harvey Scharer.
