Obituary

Marlowe Heath Leggs was born on December 2, 1972, in East St. Louis, Illinois, to William and Callie Leggs. At a young age, he moved to Rock Island, Illinois, where he was raised and later graduated from Rock Island High School, Class of 1990. He also attended Illinois State University. The majority of his adult life was spent in Houston, Texas, where he cared for his family and built his career, friendships, and lasting memories.

Marlowe passed away peacefully at his residence in Cypress, Texas, on February 17, 2026.

During his youth in Rock Island, Marlowe was a member of Olivet Baptist Church, where he was baptized and actively involved in the youth group and choir. In January 2000, he relocated to Houston, Texas, with his future wife and children, to begin a new chapter filled with opportunity and growth.

Marlowe dedicated 20 years of his professional life to the banking industry, working at JPMorgan Chase. In the last three years he transitioned into the financial industry at Corebridge Financial. He was known for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.

Marlowe was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Left to cherish his precious memories are his daughters: Sabrina Manley of Davenport, Iowa, LaTorriana Shorter and Amya Leggs of Cypress, Texas; his sons: Lorenzo Shorter and Marlowe Leggs Jr. of Cypress, Texas; and his beloved grandsons: Jodesai Miller and Makai Morgan. He is also survived by his siblings: Carol Clark (Byron) of Orlando, Florida, Karen Swanson (Harold) of Cahokia, Illinois, Orlando Jones (Sharron) of Potomac Shores, Virginia, and Eddie Jones (Hong Wei) of Highland, California, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whom he loved deeply.

Marlowe was passionate about spending time with family and friends. He always supported his children throughout their lives. He loved attending football games and running several fantasy football leagues. If there was a gathering or celebration, he was there—bringing his warmth, laughter, and steady presence. He was a loving and caring person who made lasting impressions on everyone he encountered. While building a life in Houston, he formed many meaningful friendships and remained connected to those he grew up with in Rock Island.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, as well as several aunts, uncles, and other beloved family members.

Marlowe's legacy of love, loyalty, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
