Martell J. McGinnis, 31 of Eldridge, passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
Funeral services are 3 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation is 1 p.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Martell Javawn McGinnis was born on Oct. 11, 1983 in Davenport, a son of Brian McGinnis and Virgie Marshall. He married Jessica E. Runge on Apr. 26, 2008 in Davenport.
Martell loved collecting Captain America memorabilia, wrestling characters, comic books, star war figures and shoes, especially Air Jordan's. He enjoyed all kinds of music and had a special fondness for the "old school music of the 70's". Martell was an electronics wiz, using technology to its fullness and always available to help someone with a techno question. He was a huge fan of UFC fighting.
Survivors include his wife, Jessica; children, Martell Jr., Tieziyana and Takayo McGinnis, all of Eldridge; his mother, Virgie Scott, Davenport; father, Brian McGinnis, Denver, Colo.; grandparents, Elnora Lewis and K.C. Lewis, Davenport; brothers and sisters, Gary Marshall, Clarinda, Iowa, Cherita Marshall, Davenport, Jamell (Christina) Scott, Davenport, Lyntricia Scott, Rock Island, and Gary Marshall, Davenport; father-in-law, Tim (Christine) Runge, Eldridge; mother-in-law, Laurie (Tim) Shoemaker, Davenport; grandparents-in-law, Vera Runge, Davenport and Tom and Lisa Parr, Ocean Springs, Miss.; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Scott Runge, Port Byron, Chris Runge, LeClaire, Brandon Snyder, Omaha, Neb., Amanda Agan, Davenport, Alyssa Odom, LeClaire, Rylee Runge, Walcott and Hunter Runge, Walcott.
To all the friends that came to love Martell and his family, all the prayers and support, everything you did to hold our family in your hearts meant the world to all of us. A HUGE Thank You to The Clarissa C Cook Hospice and all the incredible nurses and staff that helped keep Martell comfortable and for taking such good care of Jessica. Also, Thank You to all the teachers and staff at Neil Armstrong Elementary School for everything they've done for us during this difficult time. Finally, we would like express our extreme gratitude to Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home for making this difficult time easier for us. You are truly a blessing to our family. Thank you, Steve!!!
