IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha "Marty"
Gianulis Cordero
September 7, 1951 – January 26, 2015
Martha "Marty" Gianulis Cordero, 63, of Rock Island, died Monday, Jan. 26, 2015 at her home.
Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to QC PAWS or to the American Cancer Society.
Martha "Marty" Gianulis was born Sept. 7, 1951 in Rock Island, a daughter of John and Mary Jane Britton Gianulis. She married Joseph Cordero.
Marty graduated from the Villa de Chantal School for Girls in 1969 and attended the University of Illinois and later graduated from Black Hawk College School of Nursing, Moline. She was a registered nurse working for many years for Medical Arts, Moline and for Doctors Allen, Porubcin and Spector in particular. She retired in 2014. As an oncology nurse she touched many lives. She always considered her calling as a nurse a labor of love. Marty was respected and loved by both her patients and her peers. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Porubcin, the entire staff and especially the "girls in the back room".
In her free time, Marty enjoyed music, especially jazz and the blues. She was a life-long Cubs fan and was able to attend her first game last summer and watch the Cubs beat the Cardinals. Her greatest love was for her daughter, Molly.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Molly Alvarez, Rock Island; sister, Sara "Sally" Gianulis, Rock Island; brother, Andrew Gianulis, Rock Island; nieces, Jessica Gianulis (Jesse Schmidt), Rock Island, and Elizabeth (Brian) Hughes, Andalusia; nephew, John Gianulis, Moline; great-nieces, Ellis, Josie, Maddy and Gia; and great-nephew, Beau. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Joe; and sister-in-law, Jacquelyn Gianulis.
