Martha E. Higgins, 97, formerly of Rock Island, passed away on Thursday, January

22, 2015 at the Amber Ridge Assisted Living, Moline. A memorial mass will be held at a later date at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. The body was donated to Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, for scientific study. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, Alleman High School, Rock Island or to the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Shelter, Milan. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Martha was born on January 19, 1918 in Crittenden, New York, a daughter of Konstanty and Antonia (Godlewska) Siemesz. Martha graduated Salutatorian from Alden High School, Alden N.Y. in 1935. She married Leonard Higgins on July 3, 1941 in Crittenden, N.Y. He preceded her in death on January 6, 1995. Martha worked for the First Midwest Bank, Moline before her retirement. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.

Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Kathleen and Harry Galley, Rock Island; son and daughter in law, Keith and Dale Higgins, Shingletown, CA.; grandchildren, Randy Higgins, Portland, OR., Barbara Watts, Davenport, Sharon Galley, Indianapolis, IN., and Jeremy Higgins, Seattle, WA.; great grandchildren, Wren Hampton, Lawrence Dean, Morgan Higgins, Willa Higgins, Pixie Higgins, and Ruby Watts; and several nieces and nephews.
