Martin H. Katz, 79, of Rock Island passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2016 in Rock Island.
Funeral services will be on Monday at 1:00 PM at the Congregation Beth Israel at the Tri-City Jewish Center in Rock Island. Burial will be at Hebrew Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials in Marty's honor may be made to the charity of your choice.
Marty was born on May 7, 1937 to Isador and Ruth Evelyn Katz. A graduate of Rock Island Public High School, he obtained his B.A. from Augustana College, where he was a national debating champion, and his J.D. from Northwestern University in Chicago where he graduated with honors.
Marty practiced law for more than fifty years at his namesake law firm Katz, Nowinski in Rock Island and then Moline. He received numerous awards for his legal service over the years and was most proud of his induction into the American College of Trial Lawyers and his induction into the Illinois State Bar Foundation, where he also served on its Board of Directors. For many years, Marty also served as an officer on the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Committee in Chicago.
Marty loved the Quad Cities and was active in many civic and philanthropic organizations, including the Kiwanis Club, the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Augustana College, Bethany Home, and the Figge Museum.
Marty was a good friend to many and will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Judith.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Susan, his sons Steven (Katia) and Matthew (Stephen), and his grandchildren Lara, Ariane, and Wyatt - all of whom he loved dearly.
