Marlin D. Newman, 51, of Moline, passed away Tuesday August 12, 2014 at his home.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 18th, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 - 7th Ave., Rock Island, where visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 19th, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Chicago, IL. Memorials may be made to the family for his childrens education.
Marlin was born March 14, 1963 in Chicago, IL, a son of Clarence and Ora Williams Newman. He graduated from Hale's Franciscan Catholic High School, Chicago, in 1981. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina A & T University in 1986.
Marlin and Cynthia D. Babers were united in marriage on October 5, 1992 in Moline. He was a Supervisory Engineer with the Joint Munitions Command, at the Rock Island Arsenal, since 1988. During his time at the Arsenal, he was an excellent briefer and recipient of numerous awards for exemplary work on projects he was assigned.
Marlin was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Moline. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved being with family and attending his children's activities
He was an avid sports fan, loved playing basketball, golfing, watching westerns and gangster movies, and attending concerts with his wife.
Surviving are his wife, Cynthia, of Moline; daughter, Sharle' Newman, Columbus, OH; son, Vashaun Newman, Petersburg, VA; stepson, Clifton Barrett III, North Hollywood, CA; siblings, Pamela Flynn, Rochester Hills, MI, Cordell Newman, Minneapolis, MI, and Cynthia R. Newman, Chicago; nieces, Brittani and Mariah Newman; nephews, Joseph Newman and Justin Flynn; aunt, Josie Qualls, Chicago; and uncle, Joseph Williams, Chicago.
Marlin was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and aunt, Ann Williams Guice.
