Obituary

Marvin G. Hall, 96, of Rock Island, died Friday, March 27, 2015 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Services will be 11 am Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of the Rock Island Public Library or the Rock Island County Historical Society.

Marvin was born in Rock Island, Ill. on October 17, 1918, a son of Douglas E. and Esther M. Hall. He married Verna M. Sattizahn on November 15, 1947 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on October 26, 2004.

Marvin was a U.S. Navy veteran who received the Purple Heart for his decorated service during WWII. During his service he served on the USS Lexington, USS Strong and the USS Walke which was sunk during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theater.

Marvin retired as an inspection specialist for Quality Assurance on the Rock Island Arsenal.

Marvin enjoyed reading, was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club and was an avid outdoorsman. He especially enjoyed family vacations and traveling with his wife following his retirement.

Survivors include his children (and spouses), Douglas (Neva) Hall, Westfield, Ind., Craig (Sherrie) Hall, Mobile, Ala. and Lisa (Bruce) Beuseling, Cambridge, Ill.; grandchildren, Emily (Chris) Mears and Kevin and Laura Beuseling; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Mears; several nieces and nephews; and his loyal caregivers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Harry J. Hall and sister, Lauris St. Germain.
