Marvin Leroy Hare, 75 of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday July 23, 2024 at his home.

Services are 1:00 PM Monday July 29, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be left to Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Marvin was born on January 8, 1949 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Delwin and Twilla (Smith) Hare. He was a graduate of Galesburg High School and later from Carl Sandburg College with a degree in criminal justice. Marvin married Elaine Mesey on June 7, 1968 in Galesburg. She preceded him in death. He later married Stacey Wilson on February 22, 2024.

Marvin was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam with the 4th Infantry Division. He had been employed with the Rock Island Arsenal Police Department for 30 years. Previously he had worked at Steak and Shake, Galesburg for 20 years.

He was a member of the Milan American Legion Post 569 and the Rock Island Boat Club. Marvin loved watching westerns, Walker Texas Ranger, fishing, visiting with family and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Stacey Hare, Rock Island; mother, Twilla Ferry; siblings, Elaine Shane, Galesburg, Debbie (Wayne) Porch, Chillicothe, Glen (Valerie) Ferry, South Dakota; several nieces and nephews and best friend, Danny Erenst.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine and father, Delwin.
