Marvin F. Mirr, 85, of Rock Island, died on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island, after a brief battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Island on Friday, June 17th at 10:00 a.m. with burial immediately afterwards at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted . Following the cemetery services, the family will host a luncheon at the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island and all are welcome to attend.
Visitation will be held at Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, 2106-7th Ave., Rock Island, on Thursday, June 16th from 4:00-7:00 p.m., where a rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church, Rock Island.
Marvin F. Mirr was born on February 26, 1931, in Humphrey, Nebraska. He was the son of Leo and Adeline Beller Mirr. Marvin graduated from St. Joseph's High School, Rock Island, in 1950. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. On June 19, 1954 he married Joyce Ellen Wiggers and they were married for 43 years until her death in January 1997.
For over 30 years Marvin was employed by John Deere Plow Planter Works, Moline. He retired from John Deere in 1982. In retirement Marvin was an avid traveler, frequently visiting family and friends in the United States and Europe. He also enjoyed attending the theater, Cubs games, doing crossword puzzles and playing video poker at Jumers.
Marvin is survived by his loving companion of 16 years, Elizabeth Langheim; son, Steven and his wife Barbara in Brussels, Belgium; son, Ron and his wife Deanne, in Iowa City, Iowa; daughter, Pamela and her husband, Don in Southlake, Texas; daughter, Diane and her husband Brian, in Colleyville, Texas; and nine grandchildren. Marvin is also survived by his brother and sisters, Dale and Lana Mirr, Cave Creek, Arizona; Carol and Don Hoover, Moline, Illinois; Janet Robinson, Moline, Illinois; and Betty Dies, Moline, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ilene Kennedy, Mardi Conover, Anita Kane and Kathleen Manion, and his brother Ivan Mirr.
