Mary Jane Begyn, 87, a resident of Amber Ridge, Moline formerly of Rock Island passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday May 23, at Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4-6 on Friday May 22 at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer's Disease Association.
Mary Jane Wittevrongel was born October 21, 1927 in Kewanee, Ill., a daughter of Paul and Clara Joos Wittevrongel. She married Francis R. Begyn on July 24, 1948 in Rock Island. He died July 21, 1993.
She was employed at Royal Neighbors of America and also worked for 20 years as a secretary for the Black Hawk Lung Association. Later in life she devoted much of her time as a care giver to numerous family members.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, Rock Island, Ladies Sodality of the Church and the Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus Auxillary. Mary enjoyed playing cards with high school classmates, bowling, crocheting, bird watching, working puzzles, and visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Susan Begyn of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Lynnette and Kim Newton, Collinsville, Ill.; son-in-law, Steven Hauman, Rock Island; eight grandchildren; thirteen great- grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Ludwig; and brothers Charles and Donald (Marti) Wittevrongel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; a daughter, Laurel Hauman; and brother, Paul Wittevrongel.
