Mary Margaret Marantz, 101, Rock Island, died Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at St. Anthony's Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island. Cremation rites accorded.
A graveside service will be on Friday, March 29, at 3:00 PM at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, or Quad City Animal Welfare Center (a no kill shelter), per her request.
Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family.
Mary was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 8, 1917, a daughter of William F. and Margaret Tunney Block. She married Max Marantz on May 23, 1947, in Ottawa, Ill. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1973.
Mary was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she served on the Altar and Rosary Society for many years. She also served on the former Franciscan Auxiliary and was a member of the Rock Island Friends of the Library.
Mary enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and doting on her beloved dogs.
She is survived by her "kids" - great-niece, Kathy Campbell and great-nephew, Thomas Stein; great-great nephew, Matthew (Kate) Campbell and their children, James and Emily; and cousins Jack Austin Crabbs Jr., Sharon Hickenbottom, and Sandra Anderson.
She is also survived by her Marantz family: nephews - Tom (Natalie) Marantz, Michael (Barbie) Schwartz, and Alan (Julie) Koslow; the Marantz family nieces - Marla Marantz, Lynne (Edward) Lane, Marilyn Seltzer; many great nieces and nephews; and her sister-in-law Yetta Marantz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Catherine Hartung, nephew, Gary Stein, great nephew, Kevin J. Stein, her sisters-in-law and spouses Rose and Bernard Friedman, Barbara and Jack Koslow, Esther and Harold Schwartz, brother-in-law Jack Marantz and nephew, Joel Seltzer.
