Obituary

Mary A. Peters (Burdick), 90, of Taylor Ridge, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at Silver Cross Nursing and Rehab, Rock Island.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family.

Mary was born on March 27, 1931 in Oakville, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Essie (Wykert) Burdick. She was a graduate of United Township High School, East Moline, in 1949 and later married Richard E. Peters on September 5, 1950 in East Moline.

Mary was a Navy wife and mother for 22 years supporting her husband's career while traveling to stations in the United States and overseas. After returning to civilian life, Mary worked at the Rock Island Arsenal in an administrative assistant role for 10 years. Richard and Mary retired in 1986 and moved to Hamilton, Alabama to be near her sister, Betty. They later moved to an assisted living military community in Blytheville, Arkansas, where they enjoyed socializing with other retired military couples. After Richard's death in 2006, Mary moved to Taylor Ridge where she was able to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, reading, and various art projects. Mary was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Peters (Sharon Pello), Auburn, California; a son, Richard (Tami) Peters, Taylor Ridge, Illinois; two grandchildren, Aaron (Krista) Peters, Taylor Ridge and Angela (Bobby) Golden, Eldridge, Iowa and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Brynn, Lyraphina, Noah Peters, Bryce and Ayden Golden, sister, Betty (L J) Prestage and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son, Christopher, and brother, George Burdick.
