Mary Elizabeth Ovenden, known as MaryBeth, 73, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, May 23, 2022, at St Anthony's Nursing Care, Rock Island.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
MaryBeth was born July 30, 1948, at St Anthony's Hospital, Rock Island, IL to the parents of Francis P. Ovenden and Mary M. Kriznar Ovenden. She graduated from Alleman High School in 1967. She was a member of St Pius Catholic Church, Rock Island, IL.
MaryBeth was the caregiver of the family. Living with her parents the last many years of their lives helping them in any way she could. She loved counted cross stitch and stitched hundreds of pieces used in her handmade greeting cards. Family members cherish the cards, each made specifically for them.
When her parents were alive, she was an avid gardener, helping them with a large garden each summer.
Prior to retirement, she was employed by Dohrn Trucking, First National Bank of the Quad Cities, and in the kitchen of Horace Mann School, Rock Island, IL.
Those left to cherish her memory are nieces Allison (Kole) Frank, Rock Island; Valerie (Scott) Perkins, Sherrard; Nicole (Jon) Kelly, Ankeny, IA; nephews: Shawn (Nancy) Ovenden, Omaha, NE; Travis Scudder, Rock Island; Jacob Shaw, Muscatine, IA; brother-in-law Michael Scudder, Rock Island; and sister-in-law, Lynn Ovenden, Aledo, IL; several great nieces and nephews, as well as good friends Maggie and Bill Holmquist, Silvis, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Lucy Shaw and Patricia Scudder; and brother, Frank Ovenden.
