It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Retta (Garvey) Barrett, 69, of Rock Island, IL. Mary passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at her home surrounded by family.

Mary, daughter of Evelyn and Leroy Garvey, was born on July 24,1953, in Moline, Illinois, On February 2,1974, she married her high school sweetheart, Terry E Barrett. Mary graduated from Rock Island High School in 1971. She then went on to Commonwealth Business College to earn her associates degree. Mary retired from Sentry Insurance as a Senior Subrogation Claims Adjuster, where she truly loved her job and the people she worked with. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She spent all of her energy making sure the needs of others were taken care of with little regard to her own. Mary will be remembered for her unconditional love and her infectious laughter. Her hobbies included traveling with her husband and friends whom she loved like her sisters. Mary was always looking forward to the next family vacation and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved going to Daytona Beach with Terry every year and would lay by the beach for hours.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her husband Terry, daughter, Tracey (Dave) Babula of South Elgin, IL; son, Terry (Angela) Barrett of Pleasant Hill, IA; and daughter, Trisha (Tony) Themas of LeClaire, IA; grandchildren Brodee, Lily, Samantha, Hunter, Nicholas, Jaxon, Lincoln, and Lyla. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Linda Pruett and Kathy Frances and her Uncle Robert Baker.

Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life on Thursday, March 2nd from 4pm-7pm at Wheelan-Pressly in Rock Island, IL.
