Mary Gianulis, 88, of Milan, formerly of Rock Island, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2015.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 15th from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at St. Geogre Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. There will be a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the church with the burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Rock Island or to the Philoptochos Society of the church.
Mary was born in Moline, Illinois on December 23, 1926, the daughter of Andrew and Meta Kritselas Gianulis. She retired from Alcoa in 1986 after a 25-year career. Mary loved spoiling her co-workers with Greek sweets. Mary was an active member at St. George Greek Orthodox Church and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She volunteered at the annual festival and the boutique.
Mary was fun to be around. She was truly loved by all her relatives; especially her nieces and nephews. Mary was a gifted piano player. She had a strong influence on many of her nieces and nephews who love music today. Mary enjoyed reading; especially Agatha Christie and watching James Bond movies.
Survivors include her sister, Kathy Gianulis Francis, Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, Andrew Gianulis, Rock Island, Sara "Sally" Gianulis, Rock Island, Dee (Ray) Unks, Scottsdale, Ariz., Chris (Celeste) Francis, Phoenix, Andy Francis, Phoenix, and Nick (Valerie) Kangles, Calgary, Saskatchewan, Canada; 15 great nieces and nephews; and 9 great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John; her sister, Anne Kangles; her niece, Marty "Candy" Cordero; and her nephew, George Kangles.
