Obituary

Mary Lucas, 77 of Aledo passed away surrounded by a room full of family and friends Friday, July 19, 2019 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity in Rock Island.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Matherville.  Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Matherville.  Visitation is Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 – 4th Ave E., Milan. Memorials may be left to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Mary was born June 11, 1942 in Boden, IL, a daughter of Michael and Juanita (Prescott) Hayostek. She graduated from Sherrard High School, class of 1960.  She married William Francis Lucas on June 22, 1960.  William passed away on February 12, 2000.

Having been raised on a farm, Mary was no stranger to hard work and was well schooled in the kitchen.  She was, as many would agree, one of the best cooks that ever wore a smile in the kitchen.  Her pies and desserts were second only to her holiday meals and many family recipes that she enjoyed sharing with family and friends.  There was never a time that she did not lend a helping hand when called upon.  She was a member of St. Anthony's church in Matherville, IL.  She was also a member and volunteer of the Milan American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a strong supporter of the veterans.

A wonderful homemaker for many years, Mary also worked at Eagles Corporate Headquarters in Milan, IL, retiring in 2003.  Later you would find her at the Rock Island Sale Barn alongside her friend Sharon, making the best strawberry pie and hot beef sandwiches that you ever seen.

Mary's beautiful smile and infectious laugh were a sight to behold and enjoyed by her many friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Scott M. (Paulette) Lucas, Aledo and Todd A. Lucas, Matherville.  Daughter in-law Roxanne (Dean) Lucas, grandchildren Zachary (Lisa) Lucas, Caleb Lucas, Taylor (Bill) Attwood, Alexandra (Brayden) Pridemore, Sean Lucas and great granddaughter Everly Rose Lucas, sisters Dixie Hain, Suzanne Hayostek, Margo Hayostek-Smith and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Alice Johnson.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at Avonlea Cottage, Milan and in ICU at UnityPoint – Trinity, Rock Island.
