Obituary

Mary Ellen Hocker, 83, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, August 3rd, 2026.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 7, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be left in care of the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Mary was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to Robert and Mary Hannes. She graduated from Rock Island High School and later attended the University of Iowa.

On December 29, 1962, she married Roscoe Hocker. Together they shared 43 years of marriage until his passing in 2005.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her deep Catholic faith guided her throughout her life, and she found great joy in spending time with her family, especially during lively game nights, quiet moments with a good book, and the sound of her laughter that could light up any room.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Robin Stone, Brian Hocker, Rusty Hocker, Tiffany Forbes, and Troy Hocker; her 18 cherished grandchildren; 18 beloved great-grandchildren; her dear baby brother, Jeff Hannes; her sister-in-law, Dixie Hannes, wife of the late Robert Hannes Jr.; and her faithful and much-loved fur companion, Charlie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Hocker; her parents, Robert and Mary Hannes; and her brothers, Robert Hannes Jr and Daniel Hannes.

Mary will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, her laughter, kindness, and the warmth and joy she brought to everyone around her.

The family would like to give a special Thank You to Compassus Hospice Care team for the amazing and compassionate care that they gave Mary through these last few weeks.

Condolences may be left for the family by signing Mary's guestbook.
