Mary Joan House Stark, 91, a resident of the Davenport Lutheran Home, formerly of Bettendorf, died Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.

Funeral services are 11 am on Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport.  Burial is in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island.  Visitation will be 10 am until service time Thursday at the church.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church, or to Camp Shalom.

Mary Joan House was born on July 11, 1926 in Davenport, a daughter of Raymond and Jennie Kuhl House.  She married Harold E. Stark on September 11, 1949 at St. Paul Lutheran Church.  He passed away on Jan. 23, 2016.

Mary graduated from Davenport High School, Moline Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and received her Bachelor's degree from St. Ambrose College.  She then worked in the Nursery at St. Luke's Hospital, which she dearly loved.  Mary was employed by Dr. Leo Miltner, an orthopedics doctor.  Then Mary was employed by the Davenport Public School System as a school nurse at Smart Junior High, Monroe Elementary School and retired from Davenport High School.

Mary was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, WELCA, a women's organization of the church, TTT, Chapter AF, Friendship Circle of King's Daughters, PEO and the Genesis Auxiliary.

Mary and Harold traveled extensively in Europe and looked forward to their annual stay in Door County, Wisconsin.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, R. Lee "Bud" and Dottie House, North Oaks, Minn.; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Norman Voelliger, Bettendorf; sister-in-law, Luella Wiese, Eldridge; and many nieces and nephews; and one great nephew.  Mary was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Robert Wiese; and nieces, Mary Lou Wanzel and Mary House.
