Mary Rita Humphrey, 90, of East Moline, passed away, October 20, 2022, at Park Vista of East Moline.
Visitation/funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, with visitation from 9am to 10am and funeral services at 10am, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Interment will be at Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Lunch will follow interment at the St. Ambrose Parish Center. Memorials may be directed to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan or Promedica Hospice.
Mary was born on September 5, 1932, in Rock Island, the daughter of Earl and Rosalia (Showalter) Pingel. She married William Humphrey on November 22, 1952, at St Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. Mary was a 1950 graduate of Rock Island High School. Immediately after graduation, she enrolled at the Moline Institute of Commerce and graduated in June 1951. Upon graduation, Mary started work at the IH Farmall Plant, Personnel Department, working 2 years until starting her family. In 1966 she returned to the workforce and worked at the Rock Island Arsenal Museum for 2 years.
Mary was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan and frequently volunteered supporting the annual church bizarre.
Mary was everything for her children in their school years from room mother, typist, driver/chaperone and Rocky Band Water Mom. She also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother, a volunteer for the Milan Little League and was an early officer in the Milan Girls Softball. Later, she volunteered with the Blue Cross Mission Ladies, Milan Women's Club, and as a Milan City Hall Reception Desk volunteer. Mary took great delight in her "70 plus" year monthly gatherings with her close friends from the Rocky High "50s Club". The group was honored last summer with a photo layout and story in the Dispatch-Argus.
