Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Moore, 74, of Moline, Illinois, who peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity in Rock Island. Mary was a loving mother, devoted friend, and cherished member of her community, whose life was a testament to love and resilience.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 10 AM at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island, where family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and the warmth she brought to all who knew her. Prior to the mass, there will be a visitation from 3 PM to 6 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. A rosary will be recited at 2:30 PM, providing an opportunity for reflection and prayer.

Mary was born on May 26, 1950, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Joseph and Margaret Wilgenbusch Kemp. She married the love of her life, Charles L. Moore, on May 23, 1970, also in Key West, Iowa. Together they created a loving home and raised four remarkable boys. Mary was devastated by Charles's passing on November 2, 2011, but she continued to honor his memory in everything she did.

Mary found joy in her role as a homemaker, and her gentle spirit extended beyond the walls of her home. Her compassionate heart led her to a fulfilling career as a nurse, serving the community at Franciscan Hospital, now UPH – Trinity, Rock Island, as well as Avonlea Cottages in Milan and St. Mary's Monastery in Rock Island. She was a proud member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, having previously belonged to St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan.

Outside of her family and work, Mary was a passionate reader, a dedicated football fan, and loved to unwind with her favorite game show, Wheel of Fortune. Her joyful spirit and laughter enriched the lives of those around her.

Mary is survived by her beloved sons, Matthew (Shawna Stonehouse) Moore of Moline, Mark (Stephanie) Moore of Rock Island, and Luke and John Moore, both of Owatonna, Minnesota. She was also a proud grandmother to Dakota, Paige, Megan, Grace, Morgan, Brant, Blaine, Elijah, Lillian, and Anthony. Her cherished brothers, Tom (Ruth) Kemp of Crowley, Texas, William (Rynna) Kemp of Reardan, Washington, and Michael (Colleen) Kemp of St. Charles, Missouri, will hold her memory close to their hearts.

Mary was preceded in death by her adoring husband and her loving parents. Her legacy of compassion and love will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

In honor of Mary's strength and spirit, memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.

Though she has departed from this world, Mary's warmth will live on in the memories she created and the lives she touched. Family and friends are invited to share their condolences and celebrate her life online at wheelanpressly.com.
