Mary E. Magerkurth, 94, of Milan passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at Cedarhurst of Moline.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Preemption Cemetery. Memorials may be made in care First Baptist Church, Rock Island.

Mary was born on May 4, 1929 in Milan, IL, a daughter of Clarence and Claudia (Peebler) Galusha. She married Duane Magerkurth on September 23, 1950 and he preceded her in death on June 19, 2011. Mary worked as a file clerk for Royal Neighbors of America for several years before retiring.

Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Rock Island. Her hobbies included spending time outdoors, gardening, feeding the birds, playing piano, and doing crosswords and word searches. Mary loved her feline companions, especially her most recent cat, Teddy Bear.

Everyone will remember Mary for her various sayings including: "see you later alligator", "love you a bushel and a peck", and "after a while crocodile". These are only a few of the many Mary-isms that friends and family will remember her by.

Those left to cherish Mary's memory include her daughter, Gayle Magerkurth; granddaughters, Amy (Mike) Lavery and Abby (Jerry) Hoggard; great-granddaughters, Addison and Taylor Hoggard and Gracie and Andi Lavery; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings, Betty Hayden, Kenneth Galusha, Calarence Galusha, Harold Galusha, Claude Galusha, Irene Clark, Hazel Johnson and Esther Wilson; and infant sister, Mildred Galusha.
