IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ann
(Murphy) Schaecher
May 29, 1933 – January 27, 2025
Mary Ann Schaecher, a beloved mother, devoted friend, and cherished member of the Rock Island community, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025, at the age of 91 at Overlook Village, Moline, Illinois. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am Monday, February 3, 2025, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. A rosary will be recited at 2 pm with visitation to follow until 4 pm on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Entombment will be in Calvary Mausoleum, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, or the Quad Cities Right to Life.
Mary Ann was born on May 29, 1933, in Sterling, Illinois, a daughter of Stephen and Genevieve Potts Murphy. She married Walter Schaecher on April 4, 1959, in Sterling, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 22, 2017.
Mary Ann dedicated the earlier years of her life to raising her children and taking care of the home while supporting her husband who was the owner and operator of Walt's Service in Rock Island from 1962 until 2017. Once her children were raised, she worked in the medical records department at Genesis Hospital for 22 years.
A lifelong member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock Island, Mary Ann's love for music shone brightly as she sang with the church choir for many decades. She also shared her voice with the Ephphetha Choir in Peoria, where they traveled to the Vatican and sang for Pope John Paul II, and the Spirit Singers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline, where she created lasting memories and connections through song.
Mary Ann's community involvement extended far beyond music. She was an active participant in the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, AARP, and the TOPS organization for over 50 years. As a den mother and room mother, she fostered joy and creativity in the lives of her children and their friends. Her enthusiasm for life was evident in her love for participating in 5k's and with the Bix 7 alongside her children and grandchildren, celebrating both milestones and memories.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Jeff (Mary Anne) Schaecher, Mark (Susie) Schaecher, and Joseph Schaecher, all of Rock Island; her daughters, Lisa (Craig) Stear, Byron, IL and Sarah (Scott) Krase, Wheaton, IL; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Each of them carries forward her legacy of love, compassion, and dedication to family.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, James, John, Robert, Stephen and Sr. Angela Murphy SL and daughter-in-law, Susan Schaecher.
