Mary "Maxine" Brozovich, 90, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, Oct.5, 2016 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, after losing her battle with Alzheimer's Disease, which she faced so courageously.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be held at 3:30 pm. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School or to Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline..
Maxine was born on July 14, 1926, in Lovilla, Iowa, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Flahive) Shovlain. She received her education in a one room school house and graduated from high school in Albia , Iowa. She married Anthony (Tony) Brozovich on September 28, 1946, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church , Rock Island. Together they raised six children.
Mrs. Brozovich retired from Franciscan Hospital in 1992, after 20 years of employment, where she was an EEG Technician in the Cardio-Pulmonary Department. Maxine had also worked at Brozovich Chiropractic. In early years, she worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Bell Telephone Co., Rock Island, and also as a unit secretary at St. Anthony's Continuing Care Center, Rock Island.
She was a member of Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Her life was her Family. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in –law, Diane and Dennis Thier, Dyersville, Iowa, Debra and Dr. Lyle Clark, Hannibal, Mo., Dorothy and Jeff Tubbs, Coal Valley, and Doreen and Dr. Michael VanNatta, Moline; sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. Thomas and Lora Brozovich, Rock Island, and Dr. William and Rhonda Brozovich, Greenville, Miss; 18 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, with 5 more on the way; a sister, Mildred Engelson, Mt. Prospect, Ill.; and sisters-in-law, Gloria Renner, Milford, Conn. and Ann Shovlain, Albia, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2004; brothers, Vincent and John; and sisters, Marge Pease, and Eileen Vack.
She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all.
