Mary F. Taylor, 78, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
No public services are planned; a private Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Inurnment will follow at Farlow Grove Cemetery, Matherville, IL. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Mary was born July 3, 1944 in Springfield, Illinois, a daughter of John and Teresa Daughton. She married Steven A. Taylor on October 4, 1969 in Springfield, IL. Mary graduated from Marycrest College and completed her Master of Social Work from Western Illinois University. Mary worked for many years as a counselor at the Western Agency on Aging and as a career counselor at St. Ambrose University. Her greatest pleasures in life were helping others in need and playing games with her beloved grandkids.
Mary was a beautiful, kind and gentle soul who always put the needs of others above her own. She was like a mother to many and a friend to all who knew her. Mary spent her life helping others, and her generosity was only surpassed by her humility. She was a devout Catholic who had strong convictions and, although she had a sweet and gentle nature, she was protective and vigilant of her family and friends.
Mary was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.
Surviving are her son, Steven Taylor, and his wife Kyoung, Rock Island; daughter, Christina Henzen, and her husband Derek, Denver, IA; grandchildren, William P. Taylor, Evan Taylor and Dagen Henzen.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Steven, her parents; and two brothers, John (Jack) Daughton and Thomas Daughton.
