Funeral services for Mary Kay Toom, 78, of Port Byron, will be 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Word of Life Christian Center, Rock Island, IL.  A private family burial will be at Sherrard Cemetery, Sherrard, IL in the spring. Family will greet friends for visitation on Saturday from 10:00 am to service time at Word of Life. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mary passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center, East Moline. She was surrounded by her family after fighting a heroic battle against cancer.

Mary was born on April 3, 1946, in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Nels and Vera (Pearson) Carlson. She was married from 1967 to 1974 to William Banks. She married Ricky D. Toom on December 23, 1983, at Word of Life in Rock Island.  They raised two children Brandon Banks & Mattia (Toom) Havens.

Mary worked for Caterpillar, John Deere and Sentry Insurance before she retired.  Mary was a loving and supportive mother.  Her unwavering faith was the foundation of everything she did.  She was a leader in her church, she sang on the worship team and organized countless outreach events and church dinners.  She was inspired by her faith to serve others and to love God with her whole heart.

Survivors include her husband Ricky, her children Brandon (Bonnie) Banks, Tia (Ben) Havens. Her grandchildren; Alexis Meeker, Allison Meeker, Marlow Ingold, Ariana Ingold & Bella Havens. Her sister Donna (Danny) Gresch, sister-in-law Kathy Hall and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Waneta (Ralph) Orvis, brothers Dean Hall, Harold (Mary Lou) Hall, Gary Carlson and three nephews.
