Mary J. Bartman, 82, of Rock Island, died Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Moline. Cremation rites were accorded. A memorial service will be 1 pm Monday, November 21, 2022 at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. The service may be viewed via live-stream by visiting: https://vimeo.com/event/2619912. The family will greet those in attendance following the memorial service. Inurnment will be private at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made in care of Salem Lutheran Church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, is assisting the family.
Mary was born in Moline, Illinois on November 27, 1939, the daughter of Emil and Frances Cordts Van Vooren. She married William Bartman on August 20, 1978 in Moline. He preceded her in death.
Mary earned a bachelor's degree in English from Augustana College, Rock Island. She earned her master's degree from Western Illinois University. Mary taught 27 years for Moline Public Schools and retired in 1994.
Mary was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. She was also a member of the American Association of University Women and Kings Daughters. She was a former member of P.E.O. Mary enjoyed reading and playing bridge.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Kenneth Boquist, Rock Island, Ill and David (Beverly) Boquist, Crestview, Fla.; step-daughter, Kathy (Brent) Siemens, Edmund, Okla.; grandchildren, Matthew Boquist, Terri Boquist, Taylor Bartman, Cameron Siemens and Carson Siemens; brother, George Van Vooren, Moline; and step-daughter-in-law, Carla Bartman, Sand Springs, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and stepson, Brad Bartman.
