Matthew S. Phelps, 31, and his son, Kash I. Phelps, 4, of Sherrard, left this earth together to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, after a tragic fire in their home.

Funeral services for Matthew and Kash will be 10 am on Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7 Ave., Rock Island. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 pm. Burial is at St. John's Cemetery, Viola. Memorials may be given to the family for a memorial to be established later.

Matthew was born July 18, 1986 in Moline, a son of Michael and Darla Akers Phelps. He married Tawny M. Krahl on Apr. 20, 2013 in Milan.

He graduated from Sherrard High School in 2004. Matt was working at Trillium Dell Timberworks in Knoxville, Ill., and previously worked at Midwest Fibre Products in Viola. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Matherville. Matt loved sports and was an avid Chicago Bears fan. He was also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He had a passion for kids and his greatest love was for his children.

Survivors include his wife, Tawny; daughter, Khloe Phelps; parents, Michael and Darla Phelps, Sherrard; brother, Jacob Phelps; sister, Erica Phelps; grandparents, Roy and Phyllis Akers, Coal Valley; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, James and Beatrice Phelps; aunt, Sandra Phelps Lane; and uncle, Jimmy Phelps.

Kash was born July 27, 2013 in Moline, the son of Matthew and Tawny Krahl Phelps.

He was enrolled at the Winola Elementary Pre-School. Kash was a great fan of Paw Patrol, Sponge Bob Square Pants and Herman the Worm. He also enjoyed school, You Tube, Facetime, swimming and jumping. Kash's smile was infectious and he loved and was loved by his large extended family.

Survivors include his mother, Tawny; siblings, Khloe Phelps, Karter and Kensley Upton; grandparents, Doug and Tresa Krahl and Michael and Darla Phelps, all of Sherrard; great grandparents, Roy and Phyllis Akers, Coal Valley; aunts, Tosha (Scott) Peterson, Brianna O'Hern and Erica Phelps; uncle, Jacob Phelps; cousins, Brandin Phelps, Vivian Phelps, Austin Peterson, Norah Phelps, Michael O'Hern, Avery Peterson, and Easton Phelps; and many other loving family members.
