Maurice D. Townsend, 63, of Rock Island, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, at his home.

A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016 at House of Fire Ministries, 2365 11th Street, Rock Island, IL. Memorials may be made to the House of Fire Ministries.

Maurice was born November 25, 1952, min Chicago, IL, son of Raymond Townsend and Cennie Brooks. He worked at Tri City Heat for years, his final place of employment was at Xpac.

Maurice was active at House of Fire Ministries. He loved his kids and grandchildren, and everyone who knows him knows he loved the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving are his children, Maurice D. Townsend, II, Chicago, IL; Tonja L. Ruiz, Glenwood, IL; and Darrell L. Townsend, Seattle, WA; Son-in-law, Jose A. Ruiz; Daughter-in-law, Meryl Townsend; his grandchildren Montiece Sanders, Ryan Thomas, Jazzmin and Dominic Ruiz, and Alessandra N. Townsend; and great granddaughter,  Alya C. Sanders; his siblings Sylvia, Shirley, Ronald, Stevie, Annette, Reginald, Tyrone, and Kenneth.

He was preceded in death by his father Raymond Townsend, mother Cennie Hubbard, step-father Odell Hubbard, and 8 siblings.
